Session 1: Analysing  Ali Hatami's World through the Lens of "Desiderium", 1977

🗓 When: Sunday, 25th August at 6:30 PM AEDT

📍 Where: Google Meet

🎥 What to Expect:

Among the Nouvelle Vague filmmakers, Ali Hatami might be the most romantic. Compared to pioneers like Sohrab Shahid Saless or Mohammadreza Aslani, he might even appear conservative. However, just as the romantic poets of New Persian poetry, following the aesthetic revolution of Nima, are not entirely detached from contemporary possibilities, the same applies to Ali Hatami and his works. Essentially, what does romanticism mean in avant-garde cinema? How do we discern its boundaries with modernism? What were Ali Hatami’s possibilities for pursuing a romantic approach? And what place do his works hold in the judgment of the times? In this session analyzing ‘Desiderium,’ we will explore these questions and more.

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience and explore the captivating stories and artistic innovations of Iranian New Wave cinema.
